Overview

Tan Jetty Thai Food Restaurant offers a delightful blend of authentic Thai flavors set against the serene backdrop of Pengkalan Weld, George Town’s lively waterfront. Situated right at the edge of Tan Jetty, this eatery not only serves up a rich variety of dishes but also provides an inviting space where guests can savor their meals while soaking in the captivating sea views.

The menu showcases a well-curated selection of classic Thai specialties and local Puatalong favorites that emphasize fresh seafood and vibrant spices. Standout dishes such as the Tom Yam Seafood Soup resonate with a perfect balance of tangy and spicy notes, while the Salted Egg Mantis Prawn and Sambal Kangkung offer bold, rich flavors that reflect both Thai and Malaysian culinary influences. For lovers of grilled fare, the Volcano Pork Ribs and Salted Grilled Fish deliver a satisfying smokiness complemented by robust seasonings.

Visitors appreciate the thoughtful variety of dishes. Freshly prepared options like steamed fish and prawn dishes, paired with local vegetable highlights including stir-fried pea shoots and sambal petai, create a harmonious balance between land and sea. Thai salads such as the minced pork “Lab Moo” and seafood crystal noodle “Yam Hoon Sen Talay” bring refreshing, textural contrasts to the table.

The restaurant’s ambiance is defined by its open-air layout and seafront setting. This creates a relaxed atmosphere ideal for both casual dinners and sunset cocktails, attracting a diverse target audience—tourists seeking a memorable waterfront dining experience as well as locals looking for quality Thai cuisine with a view. Indoor seating offers a more intimate choice, though some guests have noted that food delivery can take a bit longer during busier periods.

Customer experiences are largely positive, highlighting the freshness and flavor of the food, alongside attentive and courteous service. Many recommend the place for its unbeatable location and the charm of dining by the water at dusk. While some reviews suggest that food quality varies slightly across dishes, the overall experience remains enjoyable and worth the visit, especially for those drawn to seafood and traditional Thai tastes served with a coastal twist.

In essence, Tan Jetty Thai Food Restaurant stands out as a harmonious blend of scenic beauty, flavorful dishes, and warm hospitality, making it an essential stop for anyone exploring the vibrant food scene of George Town’s jetty area. We went there for dinner in December 2024 by accident while visiting the jetty. We were sitting in the seafront enjoying a good view. We ordered steamed fish, fried prawns, and as side dishes rice and some vegetables. All good was freshly prepared and very yummy. Also more than enough food for two people. Particularly, we enjoyed eating the deep fried prawns. The steamed fish was tasty, and the sauce was nicely flavoured. Thank you! We recommend the place because of its food and view, simple and delicious. Also the tomyam soup on the neighbouring table looked good.

Tomyam and otak-otak are nice.. thai spring roll and the lemon grass fried chicken just so so. I would say the price is on a higher side with such quality. You can actually find some nicer thai food in Penang with fairly lower price. Overall dining experience was good, with room to improve for the food.

A gorgeous spot to look over the Jetty. We came for a bite to eat and a drink during sunset. We ordered the kang kong and a prawn pad thai. Food was average and service staff were friendly. But I would definitely come back for the gorgeous view. Great for a drink and a fab spot for people watching. Popping

It’s located at the edge of Tan Jetty. You can overlook the sea from the restaurant. There are indoor and outdoor sitting areas. We went for lunch and not many people, so we have the whole indoor area by ourselves. The staff are polite but the food delivery is a little time-consuming.

This is my second time dining here in two consecutive nights, and both experiences were simply outstanding. The food was absolutely succulent and delicious, the ambience was peaceful and relaxing, and the seaside view was fantastic. On the first night, we ordered pork knuckles, deep-fried fish with mango salad, sambal petai, and Tom Yum soup. • The pork knuckles were perfectly crispy and incredibly delicious, with just the right portion for two, made using the front leg. • The deep-fried fish was fresh and crispy, beautifully paired with the tangy mango salad — a truly wonderful combination. On the second night, we had Thai-style steamed fish, seafood otak served in the husk, and seafood tung hoon. Every dish was excellent and exceeded our expectations.
